IN THE DESERT

Conceived upon reading a poem by Stephen Crane, this set of images is a part of a larger series of photography and video, taken in the Southwest of the United States. Our model, Patrick Williams plays the part of the creature encountered in the eerie yet soulful desert landscape.

In the desert
I saw a creature, naked, bestial,
Who, squatting upon the ground,
Held his heart in his hands,
And ate of it.
I said, “Is it good, friend?”
“It is bitter—bitter,” he answered;

“But I like it
“Because it is bitter,
“And because it is my heart.”

~ Stephen Crane
